Overview

Officers and captains of the El Segundo High School Robotics Club guide the club forward in a new and fresh direction by cooperating with mentors and teachers alike. Their unique ability to guide teams to success comes from a multitude of disciplines. All members of the club have the potential to become an officer or captain. Hardcore dedication to the core principles of the club, high quality workmanship, and the ability to communicate effectively with students and adults alike are key traits of well-polished officers. Below are the officer positions, descriptions, and specifications in addition to a diagram of the team structure. Each underlined phrase represents an electable position club members can run for at the end of the year.

Officer and Captain Roles

President

The president is responsible for team oversight and overall management. He or she maintains a vision for the team, creating plans and performing actions to reach the vision. To successfully lead the team in the best way possible, the president must communicate effectively and efficiently with a variety people, including students, mentors, teachers, parents, other officers, and school faculty. Pursuing any type of vision requires dedication of the leader to mold it, through the help of his or her fellow Americans. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.5 and must have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of two years. The president is currently responsible for the following:

  • Contributing to the fabrication of Robotics Member Application Forms by describing each competition, the level of a competition's required commitment, and the code of content.
  • Collection of Robotics Member Application Forms
  • The solidification of a list of mentors for the school year
  • Communicates effectively with teachers and coaches alike via in-person vocalization or electronic messaging or mailing
  • Communicates efficiently with mentors to improve and build upon the success of the Robotics Club
  • Communicates effectively with all officers and captains to disperse news related to the status, functioning, or purpose of the Robotics Club
  • Contributes to the organization of competitions, fabrication of calendars, timelines, and gantt charts, and the assistance of individuals who request support or help, including captains and mentors
  • Contributes to the setup of agenda items for meetings as well as the execution of such agenda items
  • Manages the El Segundo High School Robotics Club electronic mail account and checks e-mails within a reasonable amount of time

Vice President

The vice president, much like the president, is necessary for the overall operation of the Robotics Club. He or she is required to be present will all meetings the president undertakes. In addition, the vice president must substitute flawlessly and quickly in place of the president at any point in time, whether the president is on vacation, absent, or missing. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of two years. The vice president is currently responsible for the following:

  • The updating of the Robotics Calendar which includes, but is not limited to, meeting dates, competitions, fundraising events, S.T.E.M. nights, recruitment events, and parties
  • Must organize the fabrication of team shirts through companies and the picking up such t-shirts by 31 October.
  • Contributes to the organization of competitions, fabrication of calendars, timelines, and gantt charts, and the assistance of individuals whom request support or help, including the marketing and programming team
  • Contributes to the setup of agenda items for meetings as well as the execution of such agenda items
  • Manages the El Segundo High School Robotics Club electronic mail account and checks e-mails within a reasonable amount of time

Treasurer Officer

The treasurer is responsible for keeping track of the income expenditure of the El Segundo High School Robotics Club. He or she must track purchases made by the club and determine if the given income can be allotted properly to purchase needed equipment or technology. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of one year. The treasurer is responsible for the following:

  • The coordination and planning of fundraisers, including restaurant, movie night, and other fundraisers which contribute to the purchase of vital supplies, gear, and other robotics related equipment
  • The recording of secure transactions from the ASB account and the Ed! Foundation Account

Secretary Officer

The secretary is responsible for a multitude of tasks, such as the documentation of attendance sheets, and the overall responsibility to increase awareness of the Robotics Club. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the robotics club for a minimum of one year. The treasurer is responsible for the following:

  • The fabrication of attendance sheets that are required to be signed by all students and officers
  • The tabulation of attendance data received by students
  • The collection and recording of member forms, which includes contracts and permission slips
  • The daily updating of announcements and important information through the use of the bulletin boards by the front of the Engineering Lab
  • The submitting and scheduling of announcements to the school-wide bulletin, whether on the website or over the announcements
  • The creation and/or approval of flyers and posters that are allotted or distributed within the perimeter of campus
  • The documentation of notes or assigned tasks during meetings, wherever the meeting takes place

FRC Captain

The FRC captain is responsible for the success of the FIRST Robotics Competition. He or she must demonstrate proficiency in communication with a variety of people in different position to promote the development of the competition. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of one year. The FRC captain is responsible for the following:

  • The recruitment of team members through the advertising of the current FRC challenge
  • Distributing FRC related material to the members who are participating in the FRC competition
  • Posting of meeting updates to the FRC bulletin board
  • Reads all electronic mail related to the FRC competition and notifies teachers, coaches, and mentors of any news or important information related to the FRC competition
  • The registration of the FRC competition through the FIRST website
  • The updating of current status, problems, needs, or other important information to mentors and teachers through the use of vocalization or electronic mail
  • Tabulates the total number of parts in the FRC inventory at the end of the competition along with ordering required FRC parts before the supplies deplete
  • Accountable for a clean lab after each meeting such that the lab is clean for classroom use

VRC Captain

The FRC captain is responsible for the success of the FIRST Robotics Competition. He or she must demonstrate proficiency in communication with a variety of people in different position to promote the development of the competition. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of one year. The VRC captain is responsible for the following:

  • The recruitment of team members through the advertising of the current VRC challenge
  • Distributing VRC related material to the members who are participating in the VRC competition
  • Posting of meeting updates to the VRC bulletin board
  • Reads all electronic mail related to the VRC competition and notifies teachers, coaches, and mentors of any news or important information related to the VRC competition
  • The registration of the VRC competition through the VEX Robotics website
  • The updating of current status, problems, needs, or other important information to mentors and teachers through the use of vocalization or electronic email
  • Tabulates the total number of parts in the VEX inventory at the end of the competition along with ordering required VEX parts before the supplies deplete
  • Accountable for a clean lab after each meeting such that the lab is clean for classroom use
  • The setting up and taking down of the VRC field
  • Organizes and delegates small teams
  • Planning upcoming deadlines and responsible for keeping the members of the VRC competition on track and on task

CyberPatriots Captain

The CyberPatriots captain is responsible for the management of the CyberPatriots competition. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the robotics club for a minimum of one year. The CyberPatriots Captain is responsible for the following:

  • Registering for the CyberPatriots Competition
  • Organizing and delegating small teams for competition
  • Reads all electronic mail related to the CyberPatriots competition and notifies teachers, coaches, and mentors of any news or important information related to the VRC competition
  • Distributes practice or training images among computers
  • Training members at the technique of computer cybersecurity and network management
  • The recruitment of team members

Marketing Captain

The marketing and outreach lead is responsible for the fabrication of marketing tools and websites in addition to the collection of data received from websites and other media sources. Furthermore, the individual that holds the position must manage club advertisements, whether the advertisement is school-wide or distributed throughout the internet. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of one year. The marketing and outreach lead is responsible for the following:

  • The creation or repositioning of logos on t-shirts
  • Researches ideas to promote the development of promotional items which includes wristbands, buttons, flags, and other objects
  • Fabricates and develops club advertisements and flyers
  • The solidification of sponsors for the school year and the management of sponsorship funds such that no single competition or sub-group within the Robotics Club gains a disproportional amount of funding currency
  • Maintains the equalization of sub-groups within the robotics club such that club captains are prohibited from joining the marketing team or any team that give their sector of the robotics club an unfair advantage
  • Coordination and setup of the El Segundo Middle School S.T.E.M recruitment program, which occurs during lunch of the months April or May
  • Helps in the coordination of S.T.E.A.M. night at the Richmond Street Elementary School and Center Street Elementary School
  • Delegation of tasks to the media leader, outreach leader, and the online marketing leader

WebMaster and Media Manager

The webmaster and media manager is responsible for the management of the website and media. He or she must have the ability to coordinate with mentors concerning the state of the web page, organize storage systems, and track achievements. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of one year. The media manager and webmaster is responsible for the following:

  • Setting up the cloud data system for confidential documents that cannot be stored in this repository
  • Track the collection of photographs and video files and upload them to the cloud data system or the repository
  • Continuously update the website of the Robotics Team no later than one day after any meeting day
  • Links the official and unofficial web forums to the website for easier access to on-demand forum help
  • Records the team's achievements in various competitions in addition to documenting such achievements on the official El Segundo High School Robotics Club's website
  • Updating websites to include scholarships and internships that are currently offered or will be offered in the future

Safety and Power Tools Officer

The safety officer promotes safety though the use of industry-standard decorum that prevents individuals participating in the Robotics Club from injuring themselves or other club members. In addition, he or she must have the ability to enforce the lab rules through verbal communication efficiently and effectively to minimize total fatalities and injuries. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of one year. The safety and power tools officer is responsible for the following:

  • The creation of a lab safety poster which includes the lab rules and the message of safety and accountability of all members of the Robotics Club
  • The creation of safety video that demonstrates lab safety
  • Must be knowledgable of lab equipment and tools and be able to efficiently communicate the use of such power tools to other club members
  • Taking club members on a tour of the lab and all lab equipment during the first day of the Robotics Meeting
  • Fabrication of a lab safety quiz designed to test students' knowledge of safety around the lab (students must pass the quiz to participate in the club)
  • Enforces lab rules and safety in a rigorous manner that promotes utter safety within the lab environment
  • The announcement of cleaning up the lab thirty minutes before the end of a lab session
  • Responsible and accountable for the overall treatment and cleanliness of the lab

3D Printer and Laser Cutter Officer

The three dimensional printer and laser cutter officer is responsible for the tracking of three dimensional printing orders. He or she must satisfy requests fairly between all sectors of the Robotics Club in addition to personal requests (which may cost currency to the user requesting to print). The only individuals able to access the three dimensional printer are the president, vice president, mentors and the 3D printer and laser cutter officer. He or she must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and have been in the Robotics Club for a minimum of one year. The 3D printer and laser cutter officer is responsible for the following:

  • The operating and troubleshooting of the 3D printer and laster cutter
  • The creation of a system that maximizes the total number of successful 3D prints within a given period of time
  • Completes forms and notifies teachers when the 3D printer or laser cutter requires parts to be replaced
  • Have the ability to show students and visitors how the 3D printer and laser cutter works and functions in an efficient and understandable manner
