El Segundo High School Robotics Club "P.O.T.A.T.O.E.S."

Who we are

Welcome to the El Segundo High School Robotics Club! Here, members build robots ranging in size from 5 to 150 pounds. We are a dedicated group of people that love to work with robots! With a history that goes back over 10 years, the El Segundo High School Robotics Team, or P.O.T.A.T.O.E.S. is a tight-knit community that focuses on teamwork, communication, and problem solving.

What we Do

Club members work in various groups and either compete in teams to participate in a competition, or participate in the planning and creating stage of the club by becoming an officer or working in marketing. We participate in competitions such as the VEX Robotics Competition and the FIRST Robotics Competition to expand their knowledge related to robots. Members can also contribute to the club by fabricating powerful marketing material through the use of cinematographic, photographic, and graphical methods. Members participate in a truly diverse environment by collaborating to reach a common goal. Club organization and specific roles of members can be found on the team structure wiki page.

Communication

Club members of the P.O.T.A.T.O.E.S. know the paramount nature of communication. It can bind a team together or stretch it apart. To ensure efficient and organized communication, club members are required to create a Slack account and participate in group discussions throughout the weeks of the school year. In the first meeting, club members are invited to the P.O.T.A.T.O.E.S.' Slack Channel, a central hub of communication for the whole team.

Attendance

To ensure a functional team, club members are required to participate in every meeting unless a valid excuse is given. Club members must sign attendance sheets every meeting and record his or her arrival time and departure time. Individuals participating in the club are able to "miss" up to two non-consecutive meetings. Any misses greater than two might lead to further action against the student who committed the transgressions which includes, but is not limited to the removal of the individual from the club. Again, this is done to ensure a proper working team.

Rules

The following are important rules of the lab, but this is not an exhaustive list

  • Respect and treat club members the way you would want to be treated
  • Do not use power equipment without appropriate supervision from mentors or faculty
