Yellow Armor Red Armor

There are three types of armors in Team Fortress: Green Armor, Yellow Armor and Red Armor. Though only the latter two are used in most TF maps. Every class has a predetermined armor class and maximum armor points. This means that a class that has a predetermined armor class of Green Armor picks up a Red Armor, he will still only get the Green Armor type, and no more than his predetermined maximum armor points. Armor absorbs a percentage of the damage taken by losing armor points instead of health points (where 1 armor point is the same as 1 health point).
