Introduction
Capture Tools has two main features, Capture and Trace. Capture directly records video files from inside KSP, while Trace records the positions of every part in each frame, which you can then import into Blender using an add-on.
Capture has two modes: Main Camera, which records a smoothed out version of KSP's main camera, and Multicam, which records an individual perspective from each vessel with automatic camera movement.
Capture Tools also includes a few small miscellaneous tools, including detailed timing controls, control over physics interpolation, a vessel-building animation, and HDRI capture.
For more advanced use cases, Capture Tools includes a batch script that allows you to remove duplicate frames from footage recorded with external recording software, like OBS, while running Capture Tools to keep the timing constant. This can be handy for when you need to record everything visible on the screen like ReShade effects and mod windows.
Capture Tools is primarily intended for people who want to make cinematics and animations.
The Capture Tools button should appear in the stock toolbar in flight, it's a red recording button, you can also open the UI in Flight or in the Editor with F8
.
By default, Capture Tools creates a new folder in your KSP directory called Captures
, which contains subfolders for each type of capture. You can change this location in Capture Tools' config file under GameData\CaptureTools\PluginData\config.cfg
.
The backslash \
button in the top-right of the Capture Tools UI will take you straight to the Captures folder.
