FOAM is backwards for Modular Adaptive Optics Framework . FOAM is a software framework for driving adaptive optics on general purpose x86 computers.

Goal

Most AO control systems in use today are either based on the rather inflexible FPGA’s, or use software which was never meant to be modular or scalable and is a code which has grown over the years. FOAM will provide a solution to these problems by providing a platform which can be easily implemented on any AO system. All that needs to be done is provide some pieces of software which drive the specific hardware used, if these are not already available. FOAM is available under a free software license providing maximum freedom for users.
