Great Work but @jlargs64 is already working on this. Justin, this is really good commit, you could take inspiration from this.

We could have for text editors like VS Code.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know editors like VS Code, Sublime Text and Vim don't create temporary files by default (maybe by some third-party plugins).
IDEs like Visual Studio or Jetbrains IntelliJ is another thing.
