When asking ChatGPT which one is correct, I get following answer:

The correct sentence is:

"This is used to notify the player who takes an IAF bot."

Explanation:

  • "Who" is used to refer to people, which fits here because "the player" is a person.
  • "Which" is used to refer to objects, animals, or things, so it is incorrect in this context.

Correct Usage:

  • Who: "This is used to notify the player who takes an IAF bot." (Correct)
  • Which: "This is used to notify the item which activates the system." (Correct for non-human subjects)

I'm confused now. What I've learned in English class tells me that chatgpt's answer is correct.

That's my understanding as well - "who" is used for people, and "which" or "that" is used for non-people.

And we are translators, writing hints to each other, about the game rules. In this case i would say we (the humans) are talking about the player(s) (ingame-objects, controlled by us humans) as non-human persons (like a chess figure on a chessboard).
