## What is Autotune?
Autotune makes iterative adjustments to your basal rates, ISF, and carb ratio based on your last 24 hours of data. The adjustments made by autotune are small, with a maximum of 10% change to the current ICR and ISF, or 20% change to the current basal rates per run, but add up over days. Autotune is run nightly by default unless its run manually by the user.

Basal profile consist of your scheduled basal rates, which determines how much insulin is being delivered at each hour of the day. It is important to understand that these settings are not taken verbatim by when looping. They will be adjusted on the fly, being replaced with temporary basal rates, based on your current blood sugar reading. Your set values will also be altered by autosens and autotune based on your historical data.

## Auto-sensitivity Mode
Auto-sensitivity (autosens) reviews your last 8 hrs and 24 hrs of data every loop cycle (5 min) and determines whether you have been reacting more or less sensitively to insulin. It then makes conservative temporary adjustments to your basal rates, blood sugar target, and ISF.

## Super Micro Boluses
Super micro bolus (SMB) gives you small amounts of insulin upfront in the form of a bolus. Your temporary basal rates will be reduced accordingly before or after the SMB is delivered, so you will overall receive the same amount of insulin you would have received with temporary basal rates alone. SMB allows for faster control of blood sugars by providing more insulin up front.

This allows you to set your target blood sugar range. Note that the upper target was an older feature in OpenAPS and is not used at all in the latest version of iAPS which completely ignores the upper target. In other words, if your range is set at 5-5.5 mmol/L, iAPS treats it as 5-5 mmol/L.

## Convert Fat and Protein
Many individuals may experience slow rises in their blood sugar after fatty or high protein meals. [Enabling "Convert Fat and Protein" allows you to provide a bolus for fat and protein units (FPU).](../../operate/interface.md#actions) The bolus is delivered in segments over a selected period of time to avoid the gradual rise in blood sugar. This is similar to setting absorption time or eCarbs if coming from Loop or AndroidAPS, respectively.
