Text input focus doesn't work with toolbar

Hello,

I first off want to say thank you for making this - I've been wanting it for a long time!

Windows 11 insider 22621 - using Start11 from stardock software

When I open the About Everything toolbar on the taskbar, i start typing and the focus isn't on the text input.

when i open the start menu, it opens the windows start menu, and then when i start typing the everything toolbar opens up.

Is there any way to change this behavior?

Are you referring to the "About EverythingToolbar" window that is accessible via the three-dot settings menu? I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but I don't see it as a problem that you can't type into the search box while the window is open. But please let me know if you mean something different.

This happens if you have the option "Replace start menu (experimental)" checked. Is that the case for you? If so, and you want it disabled, just uncheck that option. Otherwise I might have to try Start11 and see if I can reproduce the behavior.

No, I did not intend to refer to the "about" menu and I have NO IDEA why I typed that. Sorry.

I meant "EverythingToolbar" in general.

When I open it, text does not focus to the input box. I have to go up and click it. I would assume this isn't what's intended/

As far as the other issue, I would expect the preferred behavior to be to bypass any other search. For the windows search to come up first is a bit odd. I even get one or two keystrokes in before the Everything search pops up.

It is experimental so perhaps some changes are to be seen in the future.

I just installed Start11 and I see that it really doesn't seem to be compatible with EverythingToolbar. I had multiple problems with focus being stolen and the experimental start menu search replacement not working. After uninstalling Start11 I got back all functionality.

On an unmodified Windows installation it should not open the Windows search at all. Instead it captures all keyboard input while the Windows start menu is open and redirects it to EverythingToolbar directly without even letting it reach the start menu to process the input. Without further investigation I would assume that EverythingToolbar doesn't detect the Start11 menu as the Windows start menu and therefore can't intercept the input.

But as you can see, the start menu replacement option is not the most reliable, which is why I am hesitant to making it the default.

Unfortunately I don't really have the time and resources to make EverythingToolbar work with all the customization tools out there, especially since I don't even use any of them myself. Sorry to disappoint, but I do appreciate your feedback!

I was just about to ask if you and Stardock would be willing to partner together, but then I read your reply, @srwi . I understand, but also wish there were a way for you and Stardock's Start11 to join forces. Together, you could rule the galaxy as... :-)

but, when accessing the everything toolbar from the taskbar, it still doesn't put focus on the text input.... is this the normal behavior?

No, it should automatically focus the search box as demonstrated in the readme. I'll have to keep an eye on whether it happens for multiple people and how to reliably reproduce it on another machine. There seems to be another focus-related issue here.

I assume you tried temporarily uninstalling Start11?
