The SLiM engine currently opens a temp file, closes it, then reopens it. This works fine on mac/linux but will fail on windows. The unit tests get around this problem by using a temp directory instead, which seems to work fine on windows. At the moment there's no windows build for SLiM, so this is not a high priority.
