I have obtained the ds9 version 8.5 source code from the repo "[https://ds9.si.edu/download/ubuntu22x86/]". There is no step-by-step procedure in Readme file. How to install ds9 from source code. A default 'make' in the "ds9.8.5/SAOImageDS9/unix" after running the configuration script does not help. The error on running make is as follows:
Makefile:20: make.include: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target 'make.include'. Stop.
