Describe the solution you'd like
[I'd like to specify an option in my build to request a compressed image - so the result .img file that is downloaded is smaller]

Anything else you would like to add:
[When using this plugin to build and download an image, the image is as big as the virtual disk I create. I do a trim operation at the end of my build and the disk has a lot of free space so I would expect the data to compress well if any compression were appliedc]

Environment:

  • packer-plugin-nutanix version (use packer plugins installed): /root/.config/packer/plugins/github.com/nutanix-cloud-native/nutanix/packer-plugin-nutanix_v0.9.4_x5.0_linux_amd64
  • Packer version (use packer version): Packer v1.11.2
  • OS (e.g. from /etc/os-release): PRETTY_NAME="Alpine Linux v3.20" (docker)

Hello @jeepingben

this is not yet available inside the Nutanix API for now; only RAW download
so there is no way to do it with Packer.

In the meantime, can you open a Request for improvement ticket on Nutanix support and ask about this feature without mentioning Packer

Ability to download a sparse/qcow2 compressed image from Prism Central

Thanks
