open article directly in new tab with single click on list?

I cannot find a way to make the default to open the article in a new tab when you click on the article in the list.

Also, the main reason that this is desirable is because with the vertical view, the application does not remember where the article "preview" has been placed in the past. It puts it too far to the right so that it cannot be read. However, if I could just open the articles directly in a new tab (without having to click a special button), I could not worry about this. Thanks!
