How do I control the output volume with Miniaudio to the backend (Pulseaudio) ?

Preliminary Note: I am on Linux, I use PipeWire, miniaudio uses pulseaudio as the protocol.

I discovered this wonderful library about 3 days ago and its stupidly simple low-level API to just send PCM audio directly to my devices, but currently, I have a problem with how the volume is managed.

With the function ma_device_set_master_volume I can indeed change the volume of the audio output to my speakers, but when I open a tool like "pavucontrol" to manually change the output volume, miniaudio does not actually change the output volume but scales it before sending it to the audio backend.

Is there a way (not necessarily simple) to, instead of adjusting the stream volume, just tell pulseaudio to set the output to 50% ?

Changing the volume of the device at the operating system level is not supported on any platform, sorry. I have no plans to support that either. You'll have to implement that one yourself or find a library to deal with that for you.

Well I understand your decision, it’s not always simple to do everything.

I think I will just implement so my self for pulse audio. If I correctly read the code on ma_device I can access to a struct context and from here I can access all the weird stuff of pulse so I really think I could do my self.

The only thing that scared me is that I know nothing about pulse api. I only read your rant about it and how can I said this async stuff look awful !
