I'm using Blender 4.2 in Ubuntu. When hovering over the start recording button, it says "disabled: ffmpeg not found separately installed", but I believe I have arecord installed (isn't it installed by default?). Is it not ascertaining that I am using a linux system, because ffmpeg is for windows, correct?

Hello!

Linux, macOS and Windows are all supported.
On Linux, you need arecord (installed by default on most distros indeed), and you also need ffmpeg.

arecord is used to list microphones. (Linux only)
ffmpeg is used to capture the audio and save it to a file. (all platforms)
