Disable primary cache

Can we disable primary cache and just use the secondary cache (redis) in order not to use the backplane when we have multiple servers?

Hi @simonguertin , yes you can set the SkipMemoryCache option to true in the FusionCacheEntryOptions: this means that you can do this both granularly per each call, or globally by doing the same in the DefaultEntryOptions.

Keep in mind though that by doing this you'll be going to the distributed cache for every call, which can overload your distributed cache.
Also, Cache Stampede protection prevents overloading both your database and your distributed cache, but to do so it needs L1 (the memory cache), therefore by disabling it you'll be less protected from it.

A different approach I'd suggest is to use 2 different cache Durations: a very small one for the memory cache (something like 1s, an approach usually known as microcaching) and the "normal one" for the distributed cache like 1m, 10m or whatever you want. In this way you'll still get full Cache Stampede protection, you'll save your distributed cache from being overloaded and you'll get a maximum "delay" in updates of 1-2s, which is normally reasonable anyway, all without using the backplane.
