Agenda
🟢 ··· Here is the agenda for this meeting ···

Would anyone like to add to or change any items on the agenda?
OK, let's get started with the WordPress Community news.
WordPress Community
🟢 ··· WordPress 6.4 ···
WordPress 6.4, dubbed “Shirley” in homage to jazz artist Shirley Horn, introduces a versatile new default theme and a range of enhancements to streamline the creative process on the platform. Emphasizing ease of content creation, it features writing improvements and expanded tooling, including keyboard shortcuts and better block controls, aiming to save time for both content creators and developers.
The new Twenty Twenty-Four theme offers over 35 templates and patterns, designed to cater to various use cases such as writers, artists, and entrepreneurs, enhancing the site editing experience and flexibility.
The WordPress 6.4 release is brought to you by an underrepresented gender release squad to increase participation of and partnership with those who identify as gender-underrepresented in the WordPress open-source project.
Have you already started (or even finished) your upgrades? Any issues so far with your environments?
🟢 ··· Test Reports Plugin ···
The core team introduced a new plugin available on WordPress.org which helps users to fill out reports for WordPress by collecting all the required information and guiding the users during the process. It should simplify the process, so users can easily copy & paste the output and submit a ticket.
Usage:
🟢 ··· WordPress Releases in 2024 ···
The proposed schedule for WordPress major releases in 2024 includes three versions:
With the dates aligning with major WordPress events and holidays.
The 6.5 and 6.7 releases will focus on collaborative features for Phase 3, while 6.6 is intended for maintenance and polish of the software.
Ok, let's move on to Hosting Team time.
Hosting Team Time!
🟢 ··· Hosting Test tools ···
Recap from last week:
[JavierCasares] had the opportunity to have several conversations with Test [ironprogrammer] and Core [priethor] about the possibility of redoing / optimizing / modifying the test tool (both test-runner and test-report).
(update) Also talked to [Carlos Bravo] at WordCamp Madrid ans also interested in contribute.
Several possibilities arose that I leave here to understand what would be optimal, whether to make the tool from scratch or modifying the current one.
Change the base system to something like wp-env. In principle, the idea is to use the system “as is”, that is, as close as possible to what is given to end users, i.e., an account with web server, database, and PHP. Any system that does “things” (like setting up a Docker) comes out of the basic idea of testing what users use.
Include some scripting to automate. Right now, everything depends on the execution of the 4 PHP. It would be nice to include some scripting to be able to automate and validate things (Node.js versions, PHP versions, etc...) and thus be able to launch the execution according to the different cases.
Having the possibility of launching more than one test, such as including those of WordPress Multisite, and even the possibility of testing different PHP versions (even if every so often -once a year?- requires a manual adjustment).
Include this project as part of the Five for the Future in an “official” way, and get companies and volunteers involved. This could mean setting up a small team, with weekly meetings and defining a roadmap.
It has even been proposed that this tool, or complementing it, could test WP-CLI and even “play with (Project) Tide” to be able to analyze certain common plugins in installations.
In any case, all these are just ideas right now, and we are in “data gathering” mode to decide.
What do you think, does anyone think that your company could involve someone in the project with 4 hours per week, for example?
🟢 ··· WordPress Hosting Team event ···
NOTE: This is a floating idea, but something probably happening.
You have known for some time that we are thinking of holding an event that would include the Hosting, Performance, Tide, Security, and Sustainability teams, all from a “sysadmin” perspective.
This idea could be suggested as an event led by the Hosting team and could be held (annually?) the day before WordCamp Europe (Wednesday, before Contributor Day -Thursday-).
For 2024, and after speaking with the WCEU organization, it is not possible to use the same venue, but we have some options in Turin. An event for about 50–80 people is conceived.
The idea is that it should be an event for professionals in the sector (it cannot be limited to just anyone, but attendance could be prioritized for those working in hosting companies or in the sector).
The goal (unlike Contributor Day) is to put on the table aids, technologies, and any elements that the WordPress Community can offer to hosting providers.
Launching some topics that could be interesting:
As we say, it is a floating idea, not yet requested from the Community team (but already discussed with them).
Questions:
🟢 ··· Hosting Team Reps for 2024 ···
The Call for Nominees is out:
Please add Nominees to the comments, via DM to an existing Hosting Team Rep or in the linked survey
As in previous occasions, the process will have 3 phases:
In the following days, as we said, we will open the first of the calls.
We will base the calling on this Team Reps document. So we can modify the actual proposal if needed.
Some things that could be modified (these are ideas to be voted on):
🟢 ··· /hosting redesign ···
In case you missed it: https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C04U953K77A/p1699019825457819
There is a general overhaul of some pages on WordPress.org with the focus to update the visual aesthetics. The /hosting page is included in there and you can leave your comments in this Figma file. The idea is to update the texts on the site and make it more educational. The goal is not to add new hosts to the page right now.
🟢 ··· State of the Word 2023 ···
State of the Word 2023 – Save the Date
It’s time to save the date, December 11, 2023, for this year’s State of the Word!
State of the Word is the annual keynote address delivered by the WordPress project’s co-founder, Matt Mullenweg. Every year, the event shares reflections on the project’s progress and aspirations for the future of open source.
For the first time, State of the Word will take place outside North America–this time with the Spanish community in Madrid, Spain. The event will be live-streamed to WordPress enthusiasts around the globe via WordPress.org social media platforms.

Ok, if nothing else, let's move on to ··· Open Floor ···. Folks are welcome to bring any topic up for discussion at this time.
