Read items not removed in latest version

On iPad the latest version has changed dramatically: it no longer works as it did (or does on the iPhone).

The sidebar is always visible; it used to slide away automatically on selecting a group.
Clicking 'all read' (the circle on the bottom) no longer removes the entries (regardless of the setting in Settings), but leaves all entries marked 'read'. One has to go to another group and back in order to remove read items and refresh the group.

Please bring back the old behaviour!
