Section / instructor compare

Something that I've always wanted, and a feature that I think would be great for madgrades.com, is a section or instructor compare feature. For instance, if I needed to take CS 200 and there were multiple instructors, a deciding factor might be the average grade received for the average of when the instructors taught that class.

Currently, on the "Explore: Courses" page you can filter by instructor. That being said, filtering by "James Skrentny" shows the same Avg. GPA stat for CS 302 as filtering by "Deb Deppeler". A section / instructor compare feature could show all the instructors who taught the class and rank them by average GPA received.

I guess one way you can see GPA per instructor in a specific class is by going to the class page and then select the instructor drop-down. Beside the instructor's name is the average GPA they give for that class. I think this is the info you are looking for?

However there's definitely improvements to be made for comparing instructors I would say.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. The information in the drop down is sort of what I was looking for. At the highest level, I think it'd be nice to have a better way to decide what instructor to take for a course. My vision of how to achieve this involved comparing the grade distributions for two or more instructors. Comparing average GPA is nice, though information about the overall curve of their distribution is lost when averaging.

Hey, this idea is pretty interesting! I think it'd be quite helpful to make a more informed decision - I'm working on a tool that helps do something along these lines by using the MadGrades API and some web scraping.

I found that the two things people usually consider are the average GPAs of the professors (including GPA trends as in MadGrades), and ratings from online, so I created something that basically combines both (still a working version, contribs welcome!). This still doesn't consider the grade distributions but it may be somewhat relevant in comparing instructors
