: and leader don't work if no file is opened

so, I recently noticed that if I do :qa to close all tabs, and then I wanted switch branch with leader gb, nothing happened

Now I also noticed that without any tabs opened, just : also doesn't do anything

Is this a bug, intended behaviour or did I mess up my config?

It's expected behaviour. IdeaVim is an editor extension, changing the way the editor works in the IDE. As such, it can't do much if there isn't an editor available, or if an editor doesn't have the focus to process key strokes.
