Welcome to the archivists-pride wiki!
I'm doing my level best to get the first push of the code out by the end of the day on 8/25/2021 (as I'd love to get the ParaSet viewer in people's hands before the first snapshot on 8/26/2021), but real life has a way of mucking with the best laid plans. I'm knee-deep in some breaking changes that should make things much more stable, and they're taking more time than anticipated.
Seriously, I'm hoping for 8/25/2021 but it will probably be in the evening. Wednesdays are really busy for me and I have several hours of coding left (at least) until this thing is ready to fly on someone else's machine... even in an alpha state. I really appreciate your patience! So, while I can't promise that 8/25/2021 will be the date, I'm gonna push and see where we get. Let's hope the OpenSea API cooperates...
Great question! It probably would. It also would be much more costly for me, as I'd have to pay for all the traffic. And the costs will only increase as the popularity of Parallel increases. Without a really solid ad-driven model or a subscription fee, it wouldn't be sustainable. An application, on the other hand, puts all the price of data in the hands of the end user. And for most consumers that's free. I'm not saying it won't ever be a webpage (I think making one would be really sweet) -- I just don't see it being sustainable until this project garners a lot more subscribers / supporters.
Also, writing a web page is about 10x harder than writing an application. Browsers are really fickle and what works on one seldom works on another. At least with a UI framework, what you see is what you get, for the most part.
