DESCRIBE THE BUG:
When making a clip into a new compound clip, then extending the compound clip internally, the first instance of the compound clip length is locked to the original length and cannot extend. The end of the clip isn't yellow, but continues to be red. The trim tool also will not allow any shift into the extended part of the compound clip on the first compound clip.
Any other (new copies-) instances of the compound clip do work properly when the internal compound clip is extended.
TO REPRODUCE:
I'd like to add a TimeCode and then time warp a clip instead of just cutting out the boring part.
So I selected the clip and the timecode generator. Right click on them and click "New Compound Clip..."
Within the Compound Clip. Duplicate the main clip after the main clip so it plays twice. I reversed the second clip, but this doesn't have any effect on the bug.
We just need to extend then compound clip so it's longer.
Click the back button to go back to the project. The Compound clip is now in place of the original clip, encapsulating the clip and timecode.
BUG: Try extending the compound clip longer to show the second copy but the length cannot get longer than the original.
EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR:
I expect the trim tool to work correctly on the original compound clip as it works on any further copies. If the compound clip is placed into the project again, then the compound clip is extended with, eg, a third copy, The second compound clip will adapt to the third copy correctly. The original compound clip continues showing a red bar at the end instead of correctly acting like there is a second and third copy of the internal clip.
SCREENSHOTS:
FCP.Compound.Clip.Bug.mov
These are the same compound clip.
They acting differently based on "If it's the original compound clip or a further copy."
The top is the first one, and the compound clip is already made internally longer.
The second is the second copy of the compound clip, which was placed and then the internal made longer a second time.
The original compound clip is hitting "the final frame" at the Same place as when it was created.
The second compound clip can be properly lengthened. The trim tool allows for shifting the frame offset as well.
SPECS:
2021 16-inch MacBook Pro (M1 Max, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD)
macOS Sonoma 15
Final Cut Pro 11
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
It's also not copying clip meta-data and pasting it, but that's for another Bug Report.
